Georgetown Students on Date Drop Think Adults Should Be Sillier

Georgetown · October 15, 2026

What do Georgetown students on Date Drop have in common? Most think adults should be sillier, most are looking for something long-term, and a classic first date still has plenty of fans.

We looked at anonymized, aggregated answers from Georgetown students who completed a Date Drop questionnaire and shared their dating preferences. No names, contact details, or individual answers are included. This is a snapshot of our community, not a survey of the whole university. Here are some things they told us.

82% think adults should be sillier

This was the clearest point of agreement: 82% leaned toward agreeing that adults should be more silly, and only 3% leaned the other way. That doesn’t tell us how anyone acts on a date, but it’s a good sign you don’t need to keep things formal.

Two in three want something long-term

67% said they were looking for a life partner or a long-term relationship, including people who want something long-term but are open to short-term. Another 29% want something short-term but are open to more, and 3% said short-term only.

People also take the meeting part seriously: 73% leaned toward agreeing that they’re committed to meeting up with their match. That’s what people say they want, not a prediction about how any particular match will go.

A classic first date still has fans

44% leaned toward preferring weird or unconventional first dates, while 28% leaned toward classic ones and another 28% picked the middle. An unusual idea is still the more popular choice, but a dinner or a walk through Georgetown is a perfectly good plan too.

More people recharge around others

48% leaned toward recharging by being around people, compared with 33% who leaned toward the introvert end. The remaining 20% picked the middle. If you’d rather meet somewhere lively than somewhere quiet, there’s a good chance your match will be up for it.

Kind comes first, then a three-way tie

We asked people to choose the traits their friends would use to describe them. 59% chose kind, making it the most-selected trait by a wide margin. Intelligent, ambitious, and adventurous were nearly tied at 48% each.

Sarcasm is common, and so is going with the flow

68% leaned toward describing their humor as sarcastic, and 59% leaned toward embracing spontaneity over planning things out. You can still make a plan; just expect a few jokes and maybe a change of plans along the way.

These answers won’t tell you everything about a person. But they can give you a few things to ask about when you meet: what they’re looking for, what makes them laugh, and whether they’d pick a classic dinner or something neither of you has tried.

What is Date Drop?

Date Drop helps college students meet people for dates and friendship, without swiping. You answer a matching questionnaire, then choose each week whether you’d like a match. We use your values and preferences to look for someone you might connect with.

About the numbers: This snapshot uses current saved answers as of October 15, 2026. Percentages describe verified Georgetown Date Drop members who completed a questionnaire and shared their dating preferences, including people who joined in earlier semesters, and are based on everyone who answered each question. For seven-point scales, “leaned toward” groups the three answers on that side of the midpoint. The traits question asked how friends would describe them. Answers are self-reported, and this group does not represent all Georgetown students.
